Rona Shrira
Rona Shrira is an Israeli contralto and former member of the Israeli Opera’s Meitar Opera Studio (2019-2021). She graduated from the Department of Vocal and Musicology at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music (2013-17) where she studied with Prof. Tamar Rachum-Roth.
In this season, Shrira performed in several Israeli Opera including Antonia’s Mother in Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Offenbach), The Old Gypsy in Aleko (Rachmaninoff), Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria rusticana (Mascagni), Berta in the original opera Theodor (Jonathan Cnaan), and covered the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly (Puccini). Next season she will perform Emilia in Otello (Verdi) and Giovanna in Rigoletto (Verdi) with the Israeli Opera as well as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart) with the Beer Sheva Sinfonietta Orchestra.
Shrira's extensive operatic repertoire also includes Filippyevna in Yevgeni Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Baba in The Medium (Menotti), La zia principessa in Suor Angelica (Puccini), Die Hexe in Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck) and others.
Her concert repertoire includes Elias (Mendelssohn), Les nuits d'été (Berlioz), Petite Messe solennelle (Rossini), Rückert-Lieder (Mahler), Kindertotenlieder (Mahler), Gloria (Vivaldi), Dixit Dominus (Handel), Stabat Matar (Pergolesi) and more. She has also performed in the Common Ground Voices project (initiated by the Eric Ericson International Choral Center) devoted to the creation of an international choir consisting of groups from various countries and religions.
Rona Shrira participated in concerts, competitions and workshops all over the world. She was the winner of the Aviv Competitions (America-Israeli Cultural Foundation, 2023) and was a finalist at Vincero Competition (Italy, 2022). She participated in numerous workshops including IYDV program of Dolora Zajick (USA, 2022, 2023), “Sigriswill- Internationale OpernWerkstatt” (Switzerland, 2016, 2023) and the Internationale Opernwerkstatt Waiblingen (Germany, 2019).
She has been awarded fellowships and scholarships by the Ronen Foundation (since 2021), America-Israel Cultural Foundation (2023), Baser scholarship (2022), Leon Nacht Scholarship (2020), Eli Leon Scholarship (2019) as well as other awards and scholarships.
